Freelance Film Editor.

I am a professional film editor, offering local and remote post-production services. My work includes features, narrative shorts, documentaries, trailers, showreels, and more. Let's tell stories together!
Biography

Merel Marjieh, working under the name LookingBeyondVision, is a filmmaker born in Nazareth. She holds a BFA in Film & Television from the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television and specializes in directing and film editing. During her studies, Merel produced several projects and edited numerous shorts and a feature documentary. She also participated in a Filmmaking Workshop at the New York Film Academy (2019) and later worked as an Edit Lab TA at their Summer programs (2022).
Beyond editing, Merel has held key roles in film festivals. She was Co-Director of the International Competition at TISFF (2023), where she curated films, organized screenings, and hosted Q&As. She also produced an editing workshop for Docaviv (2024), overseeing submissions, scheduling, and screenings. Merel interned at SWIFF (2024) as well, evaluating films, and also worked with an international documentary sales firm, where she managed film materials for broadcasters and major festivals (such as TIFF, IDFA, and Dokufest), assisted in sales, and maintained industry communications.
Additionally, Merel’s background in Computer Science and Music gives her a unique edge. Her programming experience strengthens her problem-solving skills and attention to detail, while her years of piano playing bring a strong sense of rhythm and intuition that she carries into every collaboration.
With every project, she hopes to connect with people through film and continue growing as both an editor and collaborator ༯.
Workflow

1. Script.
Every project begins with your story, so the first step for me is always the script. I ask to read it so I can connect with your story, get a sense of its rhythm, tone, and heart, and make sure it’s something I’ll truly enjoy working on.

2. Vision.
We sit down (virtually or in person) to talk about your film. This is where I get to know your creative vision and style. So feel free to bring anything that inspires you, from photographs, music, movies, to even a color or a feeling.

3. Materials.
My favorite part. I watch ALL your footage materials and organize the project in my software. I study the script supervisor’s notes, take my own, and start building the assembly.

4. Rough-Cut.
The editing begins! I put together the first rough-cut of the film.

5. Director-Editor.
You are involved throughout the entire process. We can meet and discuss the cut as often as you’d like, with whoever you’d like (Producer, DoP, etc.). I value both your feedback and your trust in me.

6. Picture-Lock.
Once you’re happy with the cut, we “picture lock.” From there, I prepare the film for sound design and color grading, and deliver the final export.
